Moonbow on Aug 11, 2017

The moonbow was captured with a sky surveillance camera directed to north. Unfortunately not the full arc was visible from this viewpoint. Even a faint secondary moonbow can be seen.

Rainbows which are produced by the light of moon are called moonbows. They are very rare because the moon must be bright (near full moon) and low in the sky (less then 42° above horizon), there must be rain in the opposite direction of the moon and the sky behind the moonbow must be dark.
